Another bullet that did well in my 221 Varminters was the 40 grain Berger. I've tried all the powders listed in this thread in my Fireball. However, the issue is the same;over pressure. Good powders in the Fireball with 40-50 grain bullets include 2400, SR4759, N110, 4227 (either) and W296/H110 at the fast end. So Iâm gonna try that. I donât remember exactly what powder Iâve been using but Iâve heard a 40 grain bullet infront of some lil gun can get you almost 223 speeds. I haven't tried either, but the cfe looks to be top of the velocity heap for the 40's. Hell factory ammo shot around an inch in the gun. I keep coming back to Reloader #7 as the accuracy powder for my gun. Another powder with potential for 40gr bullets is IMR 4227. In fact, it is not the right powder for any bullet weight for your 221 Fireball cartridge. Powders include Hodgdon, IMR It doesn't shoot any bullet badly but it's tough to beat those bughole groups I get with #7 powder. Tedious at best. Hodgdon, who ought to know, suggests H335, H322, H4198, H4227, and Lil' Gun. Plan to get one of these powders and load up some jacketed bullets for both .223 and .221 Fireball. Hornady V-Max 35 1.731 Lil'Gun 15.5 Nosler Lead-Free BT 35 1.775 H-4227 16.0 Barnes Varmint 36 1.720 Viht. 18.2 gr is the sweet spot in my gun with norma brass. I love the 221 Fireball round for its accuracy, consistency and efficiency. Any suggestions as to one powder for these two cartridges is also most welcome. Weight (gr.) The Remington loves a load with a 52 grain, Nosler BTHP, 19 grains of Lil'Gun, Remington, 7 1/2 primer, and Remington case. 3031 is really for mid sized (think 30 caliber) mid-level rifle cartridges, like 30-30. This 15gr load gives flat primers and a .002 pressure ring increase. In my load development, I got good groups with 35gr V-Max & 15gr LIL' Gun @ 3,469fps. Want to use one powder and asking for opinions as to whether H 322 or H335 would be a better choice. My "One Gun, One Bullet" load is Speer 52gr TargetMatch with 20gr H322 @ 2,930 . These powder are fast rifle powders or slow pistol powders. At the slow end would be H322, Benchmark, RL-10X, and N133. Both like the same loads: R-P cases; Rem 7-1/2 primers; LilGun powder (11 gr. Thanks I use the same load in the Cooper but it doesn't shoot as well. Lots of guys use lil gun. Using bullets from Hornady V-Max, Barnes VG FB, Nosler BT, Barnes X, Sierra SPT, Speer TNT HP, Sierra HPBT, Hornady SPSX. One Rifle does prefer IMR 4227 powder and the other likes Lil'Gun.
